INDIANAPOLIS – The Athenaeum Foundation will bring a taste of Germany to Hoosier families with food, music and culture at the 8th annual Original and Fabulous GermanFest on Saturday, Oct. 8 from noon to 8 p.m. at the Athenaeum on 401 E. Michigan Street.

“GermanFest is a great opportunity for all Hoosiers to share and enjoy German heritage and culture,” said Athenaeum Foundation President Cassie Stockamp. “You can discover your inner-German while supporting the future maintenance and care of our beloved and historic Athenaeum.”

GermanFest offers a variety of activities and entertainment that will make everyone in attendance an honorary German for a day. A festival for all ages, GermanFest features several elements of German culture:

  • The famous Wiener Dog Races (dachshunds only)
  • Bavarian stone Lift
  • German log dancers
  • The Durstig Games, featuring a beer stein relay and beer stein holding
  • Costume contest

  • OktoberFAST 5K Run/Walk
  • Lots of food, drinks and live music

Calling all strong men and women!

This year’s GermanFest will feature the 7th annual Steinheben Lift, a deadlift competition that features and an overhead keg lift and ax hold.

Advance tickets are available and cost $8 for adults and $2 for kids under 12. Proceeds from GermanFest support the mission of the Athenaeum Foundation and help maintain one of Indianapolis’s most treasured architectural treasures, the Athenaeum, as well as the individual German groups represented at the event.

GermanFest, an all-day festival celebrating German heritage and culture, is the annual fundraising event of the Athenaeum Foundation. All GermanFest proceeds support the mission of the Athenaeum Foundation to preserve the historic Athenaeum or “The A” and provide uplifting programming that engages the entire community.
