What is GermanFest?

GermanFest this year is a day-long, outdoor celebration that celebrates all things German

When is GermanFest this year?

Saturday, October 3rd, 2020 from noon to 6pm

Where is all of this happening?

GermanFest is held every year at the Athenaeum on 401 E. Michigan Street Indianapolis, IN 46204. For specific directions you can go to our website at www.athenaeumfoundation.org.

How much does it cost to attend?

This year’s GermanFest is FREE to attend!

What kinds of things happen at GermanFest?

This year’s GermanFest is going to look a little different from years past. For the health and safety of our guests, staff & vendors we are reimagining GermanFest as a German style farmers market. There will be German music and plenty of German beer in the Biergarten at the Rathskeller and we’re taking the always popular wiener dog races virtual for a spectacle that is not to be missed.

We’re also going to be offering a GermanFest @ Home kit. More info on that will be added very soon.

Are there things for kids to do?

The Market is going to be a family friendly event but access to the Biergarten at the Rathskeller might be restricted this year.

Where do I go to sign up for the virtual Wiener Dog Races?

CLICK HERE for registration info and forms. We HIGHLY recommend you sign up ASAP as space is limited and will sell out fast!

Will everything be outside?

All activities be outside; however there will be tours led inside the building.

Do you have to be over 21 years old to attend?

No, people of all ages are welcome to the Market  but access to the Biergarten at the Rathskeller might be restricted this year.

Do you have to be German to attend?

No, everyone is welcome. GermanFest gives the Indianapolis community a chance to learn about the German culture and become honorary Germans for the day!

Is GermanFest the same thing as Oktoberfest?

No, they are two completely different and separate events.

Will there be merch?

Yes, there will be items such as t-shirts, hats, steins and other mementos available for purchase. We will also have a large variety of vendors!

Will there be food and drinks?

Yes, there will be a selection of favorite and delectable German foods for everyone to enjoy, and, of course, there will be fine German beers in the Biergarten at the Rathskeller too!
