RecycleForce is partnering with The Athenaeum to provide snow removal services from November 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015. The partnership is creating two to four new job opportunities for ex-offenders, which job opportunities are not always readily available.
Snow removal services will be provided for The Athenaeum’s sidewalks from the alley on Michigan Street to the alley on North New Jersey, making the YMCA, Rathskeller and Athenaeum more accessible during the winter months.
“The Athenaeum Foundation believes that working together creates a strong community, and the mission of RecycleForce is an important one for our community,” said Cassie Stockamp, President of The Athenaeum Foundation. “If we can support their mission and accomplish our goals, what better win-win could result?”
Since inception, RecycleForce has employed over 500 individuals and processed more than 28 million pounds of recycling. If your organization is interested in partnering with RecycleForce for snow removal or other projects, please contact Calvin Houston, Director of Employment Services at firstname.lastname@example.org.
RecycleForce, a 501(c)3 organization, is a social enterprise offering some of the most comprehensive and innovative recycling services around while providing life-changing workforce training to formerly incarcerated individuals. Multiple studies show that formerly incarcerated individuals are less likely to re-offend if they have a job. Recycling electronic waste not only creates jobs but also protects the environment and helps conserve precious resources. You can find out more about RecycleForce at http://www.recycleforce.org. The Athenaeum, formerly known as the Das Deutsche Haus, is a historic German-American landmark that advances the “sound mind in a sound body” values of its founders through programming that lifts spirits and engages diverse communities. Built in 1894, it serves as a community center for many cultural, business and nonprofit groups including the YMCA, Young Actors Theatre and Rathskeller restaurant. The Athenaeum is listed three times in the National Register of Historic Places, for architecture and historical significance, as part of the Massachusetts Avenue Commercial District and as being within the Lockerbie Square historic district. In 2010, the Biergarten was voted the No. 1 music venue in the city by NUVO magazine, and the Rathskeller was named the No. 1 bar by Metromix. The Athenaeum Foundation Inc. was established in 1991 and is a 501(c)3 organization.
